Private Residence In Strathblane
This architect designed house in Strathblane had an unusually deep chimney breast with a huge inglenook chamber and a solid fuel stove. Our client hated the oversized chimney breast but removing it was not an option. Rather than simply mount a hole-in-the-wall fireplace on the face of the breast we reasoned that removing a section of the breast from end to end to create an alcove would have the effect of making the whole thing seem less bulky. Using natural honed limestone in the alcove and returning in to form the fire chamber gives it a light airy feel accentuated by the pebble effect gas fire. The alcove down lights add another dimension to the design.
